Photography Workshop - 2026 - Oromocto, NB

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the NB Photography Workshop, 14-15 September is now open. The application deadline is 17 August 26.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT
Take your photography skills to the next level in this relaxed and supportive two-day workshop designed for Soldier On members who already own a camera and have a basic understanding of how to use it.

Through a blend of indoor and outdoor photography sessions, guided editing, and group discussions, you'll have the opportunity to refine your technique, explore your creativity, and gain confidence behind the camera. Whether your interests lie in portraits, sports, landscapes, wildlife, or photojournalism, you'll learn practical approaches to composition, lighting, visual storytelling, and post-processing while receiving constructive feedback in a welcoming environment.

This hands-on workshop emphasizes learning through practice, experimentation, and shared experiences, giving you the opportunity to develop your unique photographic style while connecting with fellow photography enthusiasts.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from New Brunswick who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
14 September
  • 0900hrs-1200hrs: Intros, Discussions, Camera Basics, Indoor Shooting 
  • 1200hrs-1300hrs LUNCH      
  • 1300hrs-1600hrs: Outdoor Shooting, Editing    
15 September
  • 0900hrs-1200hrs: Outdoor Shooting        
  • 1200hrs-1300hrs: LUNCH        
  • 1300hrs-1600hrs: Discussion, Editing, Presentations
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Selected participants who reside further than 1.5 hours driving distance of the Oromocto Hazen Centre (994 Onodaga St, Oromocto, NB E2V 1B7) (H12) will have their mileage compensated as the policy established in the joining instructions and have the option to stay overnight from 14-17 at Base Gagetown accommodations. A ration card will be provided for required meals during the stay.

Participants who reside within 1.5hrs driving distance of theOromocto Hazen Centre (994 Onodaga St, Oromocto, NB E2V 1B7) are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location each day. 

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 6-7 hours of light paced activities for 2 days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants should be comfortable engaging in light physical activity, such as moving around indoors and outdoors while carrying their camera gear. The workshop also involves periods of sitting for discussions and editing, as well as focusing on creative and technical tasks that require attention and concentration. A willingness to participate in group discussions and share work in a supportive setting is encouraged, but no advanced physical or mental requirements are needed beyond an interest in learning and engaging with others.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants are advised that the provided accommodations for those from outside the local area will be located at Canadian Armed Forces base Gagetown, and thus they will be exposed to a day-to-day military environment. Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed in the accommodations, and may be required to share accommodations.
